On April 29th, the Som Lalit Institute of Business Management organized Horizon 2023, their flagship event at the H.T. Parekh auditorium in AMA. Dr. Neha Patel, the Director, and Dr. Supriya Bhutiani, the Additional Director of the institute, welcomed the dignitaries present both on and off the stage. The Honorable Chief Guest for the evening was Shri Kiritkumar J Parmar, the Mayor of Ahmedabad, AMC, and the Honorable Guest was Shri JainikNautambhaiVakil, the Chairman of the Revenue Committee, AMC. They shared their insights on the theme of the event, “Sustainability: A Gift to Our Next Generation,” and introduced us to various government policies and changes related to environmental development. They discussed future policies related to environmental growth and provided examples to explain how conserving natural resources can benefit future generations. The objective of preserving resources should be sustainability, they emphasized, and they concluded their speeches by urging us to focus on overall development.
At the Horizon 2023 event, Mr. Himanshu Patel, the Ex. Sarpanch of Punsari village, was the first speaker of the evening. He shared his insights on sustainable villages and the opportunities that are emerging in this area in the coming years. He discussed his experience in developing Punsari village by emphasizing sustainable energy sources, local agriculture, and collaborative decision-making processes. He concluded by emphasizing the interrelationship between a CEO and a Sarpanch, highlighting how a Sarpanch can work with a CEO’s thought process.
The second speaker of the evening was Ms. Manorath Dhillon, the CEO of Okhai, a sustainable clothing brand that promotes fair labor practices and reduces the carbon footprint of clothing production while supporting local communities. She shared how Okhai engages with local artisans by introducing them to technology and e-commerce platforms for business purposes. Ms. Dhillon concluded by highlighting how Okhai has made a significant contribution to environmental growth through its eco-friendly apparel.
The third speaker, Mr. Mahesh Pandya, the Director of ParyavaranMitra, spoke about climate change and its long-term effects on the Earth’s climate, including temperature increases, changes in weather patterns, ecosystem changes, and threats to human health and well-being.In conclusion, Mr. Mahesh Pandya emphasized the importance of Gandhi’s principles of vigilance and not being miserly when it comes to using the country’s resources. He highlighted that we should leave something for the upcoming generation, and we must be mindful of our resource consumption to achieve this goal.
The final speaker of the evening was Mr. Yash Bhatt, founder of Brook and Blooms, a waste management startup that focuses on biodegradable temple waste and converts floral waste into eco-friendly products. He highlighted the significance of the three principles – “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle,” which are mandatory if we want to prioritize sustainability and leave something for the next generation. Mr. Bhatt encouraged the youth of the country to provide sustainable solutions for the environment and reduce the impact of waste disposal. He concluded by promoting sustainable waste management practices as a crucial step towards achieving a sustainable future.
